An absolute epitome of beauty and style, Zeenat Aman is a renowned Indian actress. Zeenat is recognized for bringing a western appeal to Indian cinema during the time when bollywood was restricted to conservative subjects and films.Born to a Muslim father Amanullah and a Hindu mother Scinda in Germany on November 19th, 1951, Zeenat graduated from the Saint Xavier's school in Bombay. Her father was one of the writers for the Bollywood classics ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ and ‘Pakeezah’. Zeenat received a scholarship and went to California to further her studies at the University of Southern California. After returning to India, she started working as a journalist for Femina and soon joined the modeling industry with Pond’s TV commercial. She was crowned the second runner up at Miss India beauty pageant and represented India at the Miss Asia Pacific contest. She became the first Miss India to win the coveted Miss Asia Pacific title.During the filming of ‘Abdullah’, Zeenat married Sanjay Khan who along with his first wife Zarine assaulted Zeenat at a private party. Zeenat was so badly battered that she suffered serious injuries in one of her eyes. Later she married Mazhar Khan in 1985 and has two sons Azaan and Zahaan. After the death of her husband due to renal failure, Zeenat now lives with her sons.Zeenat Aman made her bollywood debut in O. P. Ralhan's ‘Hulchul’ and later appeared in ‘Hungama’ alongside the veteran singer Kishore Kumar. Both her films failed at the box office and Zeenat did not receive due attention. Zeenat’s pioneering performance was seen in ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ where she played superstar Dev Anand’s drug addict sister, Janice. Her conventional role in the film earned a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award, BFJA Award for Best Actress and the hearts of millions of cinema buffs. Later Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman were seen in a number of films like ‘Heera Panna’, ‘Ishq Ishq Ishq’, ‘Prem Shastra’,’ Warrant ‘, ‘Darling Darling’ and ‘Kalabaaz’.Zeenat Aman somehow managed to strike a balance between conventional and contemporary films. While she starred in unconventional roles in ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’, ‘Ajnabee’, ‘Manoranjan’ and ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘Prem Shastra’ and ‘Dhund’, at the same time she also appeared in conventional movies including ‘Chori Mera Kaam’, ‘Chhaila Babu’, ‘Dostana’ and ‘Lawaaris’.Zeenat Aman’s enchanting looks in ‘Yaadon Ki Baarat’ made her extremely popular with young cinema lovers and even the media. She became the cover girl of almost all the top line magazines in India including Stardust and Cine Blitz.Zeenat Aman appeared in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ opposite Shashi Kapoor. The film showcased Zeenat Aman in highly revealing outfits and a sultry kissing scene filmed on Zeenat and Shashi Kapoor. The film despite of being hugely publicized failed at the box office and was ripped by the critics. However as of today, the film is considered as a phenomenal piece of art. After the failure of ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ and ‘Shalimaar’ also starring Hollywood stars Rex Harrison and Sylvia Miles, Zeenat Aman was seen in the blockbuster ‘Don’ opposite Amitabh Bachchan.Zeenat Aman worked in many successful films with the top notch filmmakers like B. R. Chopra, Nasir Hussain, Shakti Samanta, Manoj Kumar and Manmohan Desai. Her last film as the female lead was 1989 release courtroom drama ‘Gawahi’.She made a comeback in supporting roles in films like ‘Bhopal Express’, ‘Boom’, ‘Jaana... Let's Fall in Love’, ‘Chaurahen’, ‘Ugly Aur Pagli’ & ‘Geeta in Paradise’.
