National Film Award winner actress Raveena Tandon is a popular figure in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu cinema. Besides being an actress, Raveena is a former model, producer and has served as the chairperson of the Children's Film Society of India.
Born on 26th October, 1972 to Ravi and Veena Tandon, the 37 year old diva hails from a filmy family. Raveena’s father Ravi Tandon and Brother Rajiv Tandon both are bollywood film producers. Her sister-in- law, Rakhee Tandon is a well known TV personality while her cousin Kian Rathod is a popular South Indian actress.Raveena Tandon earlier dated actor Akshay Kumar and the two were planning to get engaged, however the relationship ended after a while. Raveena is married to distributor Anil Thadani for last six years and the couple is blessed with two kids, daughter Rasha and son Ranbir. Raveena also adopted two girls Pooja and Chhaya during 90s and raised them as a single mother.Raveena Tandon studied at the Jamnabai Narsee School in Juhu and later at the Mithibai College; however she dropped out of college to pursue modeling full time. Raveena Tandon hit the silver screen with Anant Balani’s ‘Patthar Ke phool’ opposite Salman Khan. The 1991 release ‘Patthar Ke phool’ was a box office success and Raveena received the Filmfare Lux New Face Award. Umesh Mehra’s thriller ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi’ also starred Akshay Kumar while the renowned actress Rekha was seen in a villainous role. The action thriller received the Filmfare Best Action Award. Guddu Dhanoa’s ‘Ziddi’ was an action drama starring Sunny Deol in the lead role, the film was a hit and Ravenna’s performance was well received.Raveena was next seen in ‘Ghulam-E-Mustafa’ opposite Nana Patekar for which she received positive reviews. Raveena cemented her success with David Dhawan’s comedy ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ that became the second biggest hit of the year. ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda and popular South Indian actress Ramya. She next appeared in moderately successful ‘Gharwali Baharwali’ and unsuccessful movies like Vinashak, Pardesi Babu and Aunty No. 1.During the early 2000s, Raveena Tandon turned to the parallel and art cinema. Her realistic performances in movies like ‘Shool’, ‘Bulandi’ and ‘Aks’ earned her huge critical acclaim. She won many awards for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Aks’ including the prestigious Filmfare Special Performance Award, Star Screen Award Best Supporting Actress, Bollywood Movie Award - Best Supporting Actress, Bollywood Movie Award - Critics Award Female and Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards -Best Supporting Actress.Raveena Tandon was honored with the coveted National Film Award for the Best Actress for her exemplary performance in Kalpana Lazmi's ‘Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence’. She later starred in critically acclaimed movies like ‘Satta’ and ‘Dobara’. As a producer, she has worked on two projects, namely ‘Stumped’ and ‘Pehchaan: The Face of Truth’.
