The stunning and sensational Indian actress Kareena Kapoor is known for her glamorous looks and phenomenal performances. Popularly known as Bebo, Kareena Kapoor belongs to one of the most influential families of Indian film industry. Kareena’s great-grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor was a distinguished actor while her grandfather Raj Kapoor was a veteran actor and filmmaker.
Kareena was born to actor parents Babita and Randhir Kapoor on 21st September, 1980 in Mumbai. Other notable bollywood personalities in her family include uncle Rishi Kapoor, aunt Neetu Kapoor, sister Karishma Kapoor and cousin Ranbir Kapoor. After dating fellow actor Shahid Kapoor for a few years, Kareena is currenty committed to actor Saif Ali Khan.
Kareena Kapoor studied at Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai, Welham Girls Boarding School, Dehradun and Mithibai College in Mumbai. Later Kareena decided to venture into acting and joined the Kishore Namit Kapoor's Acting Institute in Andheri, Mumbai.Though Kareena was supposed to make her debut with Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Kaho Naa Pyar Hai’, she refused to do the film as she felt that the entire focus was on Hrithik Roshan, the protagonist. She first appeared in J.P. Dutta’s ‘Refugee’ opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Though’Refugee’ did not do expected business but it certainly earned the Filmfare Award for the Best Female Debut for Kareena. Her next film ‘Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai’ was a romantic drama and became a smash hit. However her next few projects like Subhash Ghai's family drama ‘Yaadein’, YRF’s’ Mujhse Dosti Karogi!’, ‘Jeena Sirf Merre Liye’, ‘Khushi’, Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon’, and J.P. Dutta’s ‘ LOC Kargil’ proved to be commercial and critical failures.Finally Kareena managed to earn critical acclaim and commercial success with Abbas Mustan’s ‘Ajnabee’ and Santosh Sivan’s ‘Asoka’. The period epic ‘Asoka’ opposite Shahrukh Khan earned her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination. Her next remarkable achievement was her performance as Poo in Karan Johar’s family drama ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabki Gham’. Among the ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Hrithik Roshan, Kareena’s performance was noticed and praised.During this period Kareena had to face a lot of negative reviews for her repetitive and monotonous performances. However she ended the stereotype with her phenomenal performance in 2004 release ’Chameli’. Kareena received Filmfare Special Performance Award for ‘Chameli’. Kareena Kapoor grew as an actress with her new project ‘Dev’. Directed by Govind Nihlani and co-starring the legendary Amitabh Bachchan and Fardeen Khan, ‘Dev ’ was set in the backdrop of Gujarat riots. Kareena garnered her first Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance for ‘Dev’.Kareena played a negative lead for the first time in ‘Fida’ opposite Shahid Kapoor, her then boyfriend. She also experimented with comedy in Priyadarshan's ‘Hulchul’ which became a commercial success. Later she worked in reasonably well movies like ‘Aitraaz’, ‘Kyon Ki’, ‘Dosti’, ’36 China Town’ and ‘Chup Chup Ke’.Kareena’s next project ‘Omkara’- the Indian adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othelloearned her the best actress award at Filmfare and Star Screen Awards Ceremonies. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, ‘Omkara’ was applauded by critics and placed Kareena in the category of most versatile actresses of modern times.Kareena once again hit the news when she broke up with Shahid Kapoor while the pair was filming for ‘Jab We Met’. Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Jab We Met’ became the highest earner of 2007 and Kareena earned several awards in the best actress category including Filmfare and Star Screen. After a few flops like’Tashaan’, ‘Roadside Romeo’, ‘Main Aur Mrs. Khanna’ and ‘Qurbaan’, Kareena Kapoor appeared in moderately hit ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ and the blockbuster ’3 Idiots’.Kareena is currently working on Karan Johar’s remake of Hollywood megahit ‘Stepmom’. ‘Stepmom’ is directed by Siddharth Malhotra and also features Kajol and Arjun Rampal.
